Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Learn; Reinterpret 2D graphic design principles (stain/spot, balance, hierarchy) in 3D space,
  2. Manage the difference between photorealism (realism) and stylized (abstract/graphic) narrative.
  3. Use light, texture, and material as communication tools,
  4. Analyze the place of 3D in brand identity and advertising.

Course DescriptionThis course explores the role of concepts such as volume, space, light, and texture in visual communication by carrying the graphic design discipline beyond two-dimensional surfaces. Within the scope of the course, students learn to use 3D modeling and rendering tools not merely as technical production tools, but as conceptual instruments for typography, brand identity, and experimental art production. In the course, where the equivalents of traditional design principles (balance, hierarchy, contrast) on the Z-axis are examined, the focus is on kinetic typography, procedural design, material culture, and hybrid (2D+3D) imaging techniques. The aim is not to produce photorealistic simulations, but to train designers who can reinterpret the graphic design language in three-dimensional space, possess a strong aesthetic vision, and

WEEK TOPICS
1st Week Transition from 2D to 3D: What is the Z-axis for graphic designers? Perspective types (Isometric, One-point, Two-point). Techniques for creating depth perception.
2nd Week Virtual Photography ? Camera and Framing: Photography experiments within 3D software. Cinematic composition rules.
3rd Week Painting with Light and Atmosphere: The role of light in creating mood and hierarchy.
4th Week Material Culture ? Texture and Tactility: Creating "tangible" surfaces in a digital environment.
5th Week Kinetic and Volumetric Typography (3D Type): Treating letters as sculptures or architectural structures; typographic deformation, extrude, and bevel techniques.
6th Week Abstraction and Procedural Design: Generating forms using mathematical formulas and simulations instead of modeling by hand.
7th Week Midterm Project and Critique
8th Week Illusion of Motion in Still Images: Creating a sensation of speed in a static frame using Motion Blur, Speed Lines, and deformation.
9th Week Soft Body and Cloth Simulations: Creating Digital Fabric through the combination of fashion and graphic design.
10th Week 3D and Brand Identity: Use of 3D in corporate identities (Logo animations, Key Visual production). Transferring brand palettes to 3D materials.
11th Week Hybrid Design (Post-Production): Combining 3D renders with 2D graphics, illustration, and photography.
12th Week AR/VR and Spatial Design: Basic logic for augmented reality filters.
13th Week Application and Render: The production phase of projects. Render optimization, color grading.
14th Week Final Jury
