Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Explain the physical properties of sound (frequency, amplitude, phase, waveform) and basic acoustic principles.
  2. Distinguish between analog and digital sound systems and describe their fundamental differences.
  3. Apply sound recording, editing, and mixing techniques in various contexts.
  4. Use digital audio processing software to edit, synthesize, and design sound.
  5. Design auditory materials for different purposes (educational, therapeutic, multimedia, or experimental).
  6. Evaluate the perceptual and psychological effects of designed sounds on listeners.
  7. Demonstrate awareness of aesthetics, ethics, and copyright principles in sound design practices.

Course DescriptionThis course covers the physical properties of sound, auditory perception, acoustics, and the processes of digital sound production and editing. Students learn the fundamental principles and methods related to sound recording, processing, synthesis, and design. Throughout the course, various software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition, Reaper, MATLAB, or Python-based sound analysis tools) and hardware (microphones, headphones, speakers, sound cards, etc.) are used for practical applications. The aim is to enable students to use both their technical and creative skills to design auditory materials for audiology, multimedia, educational, and clinical contexts.
