Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Describe and evaluate audiological tests using clinical terminology and classifications.
  2. Create clinically appropriate test batteries and testing approaches for different population groups.
  3. Interpret behavioral test findings together with electrophysiological test findings.
  4. Determine the evaluation methods to be used based on the patient's history.
  5. Combine the results obtained in the audiological evaluation with the patient's history and diagnose hearing loss
  6. Refer patients to other medical, health and education specialists based on the audiological test battery findings.
  7. Write a report containing sensorineural and mixed hearing diagnosis and intervention methods.
  8. Adopt a professional perspective in the evaluation and treatment of hearing functions.
  9. Apply the principles of critical thinking and evidence-based practice in the field of audiology within the lifelong learning process.
  10. Evaluate and report the effects of pharmacological agents, neurological-psychological problems, genetics and environmental factors such as noise on hearing and balance problems.
  11. Analyzes the differential diagnostic features regarding cochlear and retrocochlear pathologies by comparing audiometric test findings in sensorineural hearing loss.

Course DescriptionDifferential Diagnosis in Audiology II course is an advanced level course aimed at understanding the relationship between the auditory canal, pathology and evaluation method. Within the scope of the course, defining different audiological protocols for the diagnosis of hearing loss and/or auditory disorder, identifying the etiological and medical causes of hearing loss, and audiological test battery to be used according to the patient's history will be discussed. Establishing a connection between the results of behavioral tests and electrophysiological tests, and cases of patient referral to other medical, health and education specialists will be handled. In addition to the theoretical background, case examples for pathology and audiological evaluation will be emphasized. This course will focus on sensorineural and mixed hearing losses caused by diseases of the inner ear and auditory pathways.
