At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Uses and interprets package programs for descriptive and inferential statistical analysis,
  2. Evaluates the analysis results in terms of statistical error,
  3. Decides and applies statistical analysis appropriate to the research question,
  4. Interprets the results of the analyzes made in appropriate to the research question,
  5. Performs hypothesis tests appropriate to the research question and interprets the results,
  6. Make inferences about the results of the analysis by using the properties of standard distributions used in parametric tests,
  7. Evaluates the results of statistical analysis in terms of practical significance.

Course DescriptionIn this course, advanced statistical concepts and issues related to the use of statistical techniques and their applications in social sciences research are discussed. At the end of the course, students are expected to perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses using package programs, interpret the results of the analyses, and evaluate the results of statistical analyses related to Type I and Type II error. The main objective is for students to decide on the appropriate statistical analysis for the research question, to perform the analysis using real or simulated data sets, and to interpret the results in relation to the research question. Students are expected to comprehend the central limit theorem and the basics of hypothesis testing, to make inferences about the results of the analysis by using the z, t and F distribution properties used in parametric tests, to evaluate the power of the test and the practical importance of the result in their comments.
