Course DescriptionWhat do you actually see when you look at a work of art or a design? Is it merely colors, forms, and composition?or is it the artist's repressed desires, childhood traumas, societal fears, and the struggle to voice the unutterable? The Psychoanalysis and Visual Arts course invites you to scratch beneath the surface of images and uncover the latent meanings hidden behind the visible. In this course, we will embark on a vast intellectual journey stretching from Freud?s dark mazes of dreams to Jung?s ancient archetypes, and from Lacan?s mesmerizing mirror stage to the ground-breaking perspectives of feminist psychoanalysis. We will reread iconic works that shaped art history through the lens of revolutionary theorists. By the end of the term, you will gain not only a solid theoretical foundation, but also a profound, visionary, and critical perspective?one that analyzes every image it encounters, transforms subconscious processes into creative power, and remains fully conscious of what, why, and how it designs.
