Course DescriptionThis course is planned to provide undergraduate students with the necessary knowledge about interior landscape (plantscape, softscape) designs and applications that enrich the aesthetic and functional features of the interiors of architectural structures. For this purpose, (a) the historical development of the use of landscape architectural designs and applications in interior spaces, (b) the quantitative and qualitative diversification of the landscape design, application and aesthetics that emerge with this development, (c) meaning and functional outcomes of indoor plants such as absorbing and reducing noise, providing acoustic control, keeping dust in their body, controlling the light and cleaning the air by producing oxygen, (d) the importance and usage of morphological features such as habitus, stem, leaf, flower and fruit, (e) bestowing aesthetic beauty, special identity, dynamic impact and making positive contributions to human psychology through the plantscape design and applications will be covered. This knowledge will be enriched by emphasizing on the topics such as (a) types and classification of indoor plant species, (b) determination of proper interior place, creation of environmental conditions and maintenance for their survival, (c) the importance of the nature of horizontal and vertical designs in ecological context, (d) principles of interior landscape design. The course will be conducted in the classroom and in the field with a participatory learning. At the end of the semester, the student will both gain knowledge about the course subjects and develop their intellectual and practical skills on issues such as interior landscape design, the general characteristics of the plants to be used, making suitable choices for the place and the plants, the locational application of them, and finding possible solutions to interior location and plant related problems. Thus, when the student graduates, he/she will have the possibility to be more successful (a) in evaluating his/her own and other indoor spaces, (b) in the design of all kinds of organized interiors while working professionally in his/her field, and (c) in creating and applying designs in occupational conditions that require working together with different disciplines.
