  1. Explain the concept of text and its function in language teaching.
  2. Identify the functions of text types used in foreign language teaching.
  3. Apply text selection, simplification, and adaptation techniques for different language levels.
  4. Develop text-based activities for reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills.
  5. Critically analyze texts in textbooks.
  6. Prepare a text-centered lesson plan.

Course DescriptionThis course aims to address the theoretical and practical aspects of texts used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. The course examines text types, text selection, and adaptation principles; it also evaluates the role of texts in developing reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. Additionally, the course aims to enable students to develop text-based activities and design teaching practices suitable for different levels.
Course Contents

1st Week Basic concepts of teaching Turkish as a foreign language
2nd Week The concept of text in language teaching (what is text, its function in language teaching, types of text, the relationship between text and language skills, criteria for textuality)
3rd Week Types of text and the use of texts in language teaching (texts in CEFR)
4th Week Original and produced texts, the use of original, semi-original, and produced texts in textbooks
5th Week Principles of text selection in teaching Turkish as a foreign language (level, language, culture, learner profile)
6th Week Text simplification and adaptation techniques
7th Week Reading texts and reading skills
8th Week Listening skills and activity strategies
9th Week Use of texts for speaking skills
10th Week Text-based approaches for writing skills
11th Week Cultural interaction and texts
12th Week Texts in Turkish as a foreign language teaching books
13th Week Elements of text-based lesson design
14th Week Evaluation of text-based lesson designs
