Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Interpret behavioral and electrophysiological test findings by combining them.
  2. Determine the evaluation methods to be used according to the patient's story.
  3. Report the findings obtained in the audiological evaluation.
  4. Diagnose hearing loss by combining the findings obtained in the audiological evaluation with the patient's history.
  5. Referral patients to other medical, health and education specialists based on audiological test battery findings
  6. Write reports about conductive hearing loss.
  7. Adopt a professional perspective in evaluating and interventing hearing problems across the lifespan.
  8. Evaluate and report the effects of pharmacological agents, neurological-psychological problems, genetics, and environmental factors such as noise on hearing and balance problems.
  9. Apply critical thinking and evidence-based practice principles to audiological assessment.

Course DescriptionDifferential Diagnosis in Audiology course is an advanced level course aimed at understanding the relationship between the auditory canal, pathology and evaluation method. Within the scope of the course, defining different audiological protocols for the diagnosis of hearing loss and/or auditory disorder, identifying the etiological and medical causes of hearing loss, and audiological test battery to be used according to the patient's history will be discussed. Establishing a connection between the results of behavioral tests and electrophysiological tests, and cases of patient referral to other medical, health and education specialists will be handled. In addition to the theoretical background, case examples for pathology and audiological evaluation will be emphasized. This course will focus on diseases of the outer and middle ear and conductive hearing loss.
