Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Define fundamental physical quantities accepted in International System of Units.
  2. Classify physical quantities as fundamental and derived quantities.
  3. Classify physical quantities as scalar and vector quantities.
  4. Make basic geometrical operations with vectors (addition, substraction) and find vector components.
  5. Analyze phenomena takes place in human body and in physical environment by considering basic mechanics and dynamics knowledge in physics.
  6. Define fundamental laws in fluid mechanics (such as Pascal's Law, Arcihmedes' Law and Bernoulli's Principle).
  7. Define vibration, mechanical waves (water, sound, spring, earthquake waves, etc.)and their fundamental characteristics.
  8. Define basic concepts in electricity (such as electric charge, electric field, electric potential, potential difference (voltage), electric current).
  9. Apply Coulomb's Law to solve mathematical problems.
  10. Apply Ohm's Law in simple electric circuits to calculate potential difference, electric current and equivalent resistance.
  11. Explain working principles of capacitors in electric circuits.
  12. Explain working principles of inductors in electric circuits.
  13. Explain the applications of radioactivity in healthcare.

Course DescriptionAudiology is an interdisciplinary field of study and research founded on biology, medicine, linguistics, mathematics and statistics, neuroscience, physics and acoustics, psychology, and cognitive sciences. The aim of ODYO103 is to provide audiology students with a basic understanding of physics. The course content emphasizes conceptual understanding while simplifying mathematical calculations. Topics include measurement and systems of units; vector and scalar quantities; motion in one and two dimensions; work, power, and energy; electricity; electrostatics; electric fields; resistance and electric current; magnetism; and radioactivity.
