| Course Description | This course discusses various topics in development sociology from a sociological perspective. The field of development sociology is interdisciplinary. Therefore, in this course, we draw upon the work of economists, sociologists, and political scientists who have contributed to the development of Turkey. Development primarily refers to systematic and global efforts to reduce poverty and global inequality and improve the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people. So, what exactly are people doing to combat poverty and alleviate suffering worldwide? Who are the actors in development, and what roles do they play in shaping development processes? Can these development efforts be effective? Why might they be, or why might they not be? The course guides students to explore these critical questions. The aforementioned topics are addressed within the context of the African continent, which is a focus of development literature. |
