Course Description

This course is focused on developing an understanding of clinical social work practice with criminals in prisons, probation services, juvenile and adult services. Attention will be given to issues of the rehabilitation and the therapy of offenders and also the unjustly treated persons.

Course Contents

WEEK	TOPICS
1^st Week	Criminology and social work.
2^nd Week	Analysis of the Turkish criminal justice system.
3^rd Week	Basic elements of forensic social work. Defining forensic social work with diverse population.
4^th Week	History of forensic social work.
5^th Week	Juvenile justice and social work. The role and functions of social worker in the juvenile justice system.
6^th Week	Social work with juvenile delinquents. Practice of social work intervention methods and techniques Case study.
7^th Week	Child abuse and social work.
8^th Week	Mid term exam.
9^th Week	Forensic social work with adult offenders. The role and functions of social workers in the execution institutions like prisons.
10^th Week	Practice of social work intervention methods and techniques with the adult offenders. Case study.
11^th Week	Probation services and social work.
12^th Week	Practice of social work intervention methods and techniques in the probation services. Case study.
13^th Week	Victimology and social work with victims.
14^th Week	Case study.
15^th Week	General evaluation of the course.
