Course DescriptionIn sustainable building design, incorporating plants into architecture and interior spaces is becoming a growing design approach, and designers are constantly looking for innovative ways to design green buildings that will reduce the carbon footprint of buildings. In interior design, sustainable ecological approaches such as designing plants according to spaces, reducing the amount of energy consumed, using renewable energy in buildings, utilizing daylight, and saving energy by utilizing the microclimatic properties of plants are being developed. Based on this idea, this course is primarily designed to examine the ecological and sustainable design approach, and thus, to enable graduate students to learn about the principles of plant design in terms of aesthetics and functionality in architectural structures and interior spaces; to understand the role of plants suitable for interior spaces in sustainable building and interior design, and to be able to use plants as a design object in design, and to synthesize the morphological characteristics of plants and the design elements they present with their characteristics of giving identity to the space, directing, limiting, creating dynamic effects, and improving the air quality of the environment by applying new plant design approaches to create aesthetic and functional spaces. In this way, it is aimed that students will adopt an understanding of interior plant design that will contribute to a more sustainable future by learning best practice examples and future trends and innovations.
