Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Explain and interpret phase transformations and microstructural changes occurring in metallic materials using the Iron?Carbon equilibrium diagram and TTT and CCT diagrams.
  2. Evaluate heat treatment methods applied to steels, stainless steels, tool steels, and non-ferrous metals according to material type and desired properties, and explain their effects on microstructure and mechanical properties.
  3. Evaluate the effects of welding thermal cycles and microstructural changes occurring in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) on material properties, and determine appropriate post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) and stress-relief methods.
Mode of DeliveryFace to face
PrerequisitesNo
Recommended Optional Programme ComponentsNone
Course DescriptionThe Heat Treatment course covers the fundamental principles and classification of heat treatment, allotropism, heating and cooling processes, phase transformations, phase diagrams, and TTT and CCT diagrams. The course also examines heat treatment processes applied to steels, tool steels, stainless steels, and non-ferrous metals, including annealing, hardening, and surface hardening. In addition, the course addresses the welding thermal cycle, microstructural changes in the heat-affected zone (HAZ), post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), and stress relieving of welded materials.
