Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Classify engineering materials; explain their basic structures, properties, and applications.
  2. Describe atomic structure, crystal structures of metals, crystal defects, and phase diagrams.
  3. Explain the thermodynamic, thermal, and metallurgical processes occurring during welding; interpret concepts such as heat transfer, phase transformations, and the Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ).
  4. Analyze phase transformations, microstructural changes, and the effects of thermal cycles during welding of different materials.
  5. Evaluate the causes of welding defects, residual stresses, cracking, distortions, and microstructural changes that may occur during the welding process, and develop preventive strategies to minimize these effects.
