Course DescriptionThe Game Technologies course is a class that consists of 3 hours of theoretical instruction and 1 hour of practical application, where the general steps to be followed and the technologies used to develop games are explained on a weekly basis. Students who choose to take this course are assumed to have prior knowledge of algorithms and programming languages. The course content begins with the history of games and examines the developments that games have shown on platform-dependent basis throughout the timeline leading up to the present day, as well as the technologies used for game development. This includes the introduction of various game and physics engines used to develop games on different operating systems and platforms. In addition, the course covers topics such as 3D motion capture systems, animations, character creation for games, surface coating, painting, lighting, shading techniques, creating sound and music for games, scriptwriting, and the use of artificial intelligence and virtual cameras in games. Furthermore, the course teaches students the OpenGL graphics programming language along with various graphics algorithms, and weekly laboratory assignments are given on these topics. Apart from the topics related to graphics programming language, some of the other topics covered in the course are assigned as individual presentation topics among the registered students. During the relevant weeks, students present these topics to their peers during class. At the end of the semester, it is expected that students, in teams of two, will create a playable game project using either OpenGL or one of the game engines discussed in the course, and present it to their peers.
