Course DescriptionWithin the scope of this course, it aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to carry out the pilotage of unmanned aerial vehicles safely and effectively and to plan and carry out flight operations. Pre-flight preparation and controls, flight/mission planning, assessment of airspace and meteorological conditions, manual and assisted/autonomous flight applications, basic flight maneuvers, take-off and landing procedures, operational risk management, human factors, emergency procedures and post-flight evaluation topics are discussed theoretically and practically within the scope of the course. It is aimed to develop the students' competencies of performing safe flights, operational decision-making and mission management through simulation and real UAV flight applications.
Course Contents
WEEK TOPICS
st Week Introduction to UAV flight, different UAV types, operational procedures, mission planning, and examination of basic flight safety rules.
nd Week Introduction to the multicopter, control system, and ground control station; implementation of operational processes and recording procedures before and after flight.
rd Week Basic flight modes, use of aviation and orthographic maps, route planning, and execution of flight operations on the planned route.
th Week Pre-flight evaluation of the operational area; performing safe takeoff, in-flight holding, yaw control, and basic piloting procedures.
th Week Addressing landing techniques, flight area safety, emergency scenarios, and basic response methods through piloting practices.
th Week Interpretation of basic meteorological data and reports; performing manual flight and controlled piloting under wind conditions.
th Week Evaluating the effects of weather and atmospheric conditions on UAV performance and conducting FPV flight preparations in a simulation environment.
th Week MIDTERM EXAM
th Week Examination of FPV systems and visual flight principles; implementation of circle, quadrangle, 8-point, and grid route flights under visual flight conditions.
th Week Examination of flight communication, information broadcasts, collision prevention and situational awareness principles; application of directional protection and turning maneuvers.
th Week Review of UAV maintenance and safety principles and case studies; conducting controlled piloting practices in confined and narrow spaces.
th Week Investigation of the effects of human performance, health, fatigue and stress factors on flight safety; implementation of emergency/failsafe applications with roll, pitch and yaw movements.
th Week Evaluating the effects of operator errors on flight safety; analyzing flight logs, flight records, and piloting performance.
