Course DescriptionThis course is the first half of a two-semester sequence and covers the pre-production of a short film; production and post-production follow in Short Film Production II. Students study the fundamental aesthetic and technical elements of cinema and television, including film form, narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, camera angles, sound, and editing, and apply each of them to the development of their own project. Working in crews, they move from an idea to a logline, synopsis, treatment, and screenplay, and from there to a moodboard, storyboard, shot list, and production plan, rehearsing a scene from their script in a television studio workshop. The semester ends with a project pitch and a complete pre-production file, which becomes the starting point of Short Film Production II.
