At the end of this course, the students;
- Learn the basis of evolution at molecular and population.
- Learn the concepts of DNA and protein evolution and rate and pattern of molecular evolution.
- Learn molecular phylogenetic approaches and their applications.
- Learn how evolution takes place by means of gene duplications, molecular tinkering and mobile elements.
- Learn the mechanisms of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genom evolution and gene regulation.

| Course Description | In this course, the main evolutionary mechanisms at the molecular and genome levels affecting on the structure of genes, proteins and genomes are described. Molecular phylogenetic methods are included to study level and type of genetic variation at both genome and organismal level and deal with molecular data in order to test evolutionary hypothesis. In this content, this course links to evolutionary thinking to knowledge of molecular biology and genetics. |
