Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. At the basin scale, define precipitation, infiltration, surface (overland) runoff components, and hydrograph characteristics; estimate parameters under appropriate assumptions; and perform basic hydrograph/flow computations,
  2. For dams and spillways, compute the design discharge using discharge?stage (rating) relationships and energy (head) loss considerations,
  3. Apply transmission-main/canal design principles in conjunction with population projections and demand fluctuations, selecting appropriate models/tools; and evaluate data/assumption uncertainties and design limitations/constraints.
Mode of DeliveryFace to face
PrerequisitesNo
Recommended Optional Programme Components
Course DescriptionWater resources planning of objectives, master plan and feasibility study, dams, regulators, other structures, irrigation and drainage design projects, water supply and hydropower production projects design criteria, hydraulic calculations for different types of projects, economical analysis of alternatives.
