Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Explain the mechanical properties of concrete and reinforcing steel and their behavior under different loading conditions,
  2. Design reinforced concrete members (beams, columns, slabs, foundations) in accordance with relevant standards and structural safety principles,
  3. Evaluate the behavior of reinforced concrete structural members under service conditions and different loading cases,
  4. Apply appropriate calculation and analysis methods to solve reinforced concrete design problems.
Mode of DeliveryFace to face
PrerequisitesYes(CE224)
Recommended Optional Programme ComponentsNone
Course DescriptionMechanical behavior of concrete in uniaxial and multi-axial states of stress. Time dependent behavior of concrete. Mechanical behavior of reinforcing steel. Behavior and strength of uniaxially loaded members; confinement. Behavior and strength of members in pure bending. Behavior and strength of members under combined bending and axial load. Behavior and strength of members under combined shear and bending.
