Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Explain and analyze laminar and turbulent flow in closed conduits, including head losses and friction factor determination,
  2. Apply continuity, energy, and momentum principles to compute flow in pipeline systems,
  3. Classify, analyze, and compute open channel flow types, and apply hydraulic principles to channel hydraulics problems,
  4. Utilize modern engineering tools and laboratory experiments to investigate hydraulic systems, interpret results, and communicate findings effectively.
Mode of DeliveryFace to face
PrerequisitesYes(CE371)
Recommended Optional Programme Components
Course DescriptionLaminar and turbulent flows. Friction factor in pipe flow. Computation of flow in single pipes: Hydraulic machinery: turbines and pumps. Pipeline systems and networks. General characteristics and classification of open channel flow: pressure and velocity distribution. Continuity equation. Energy concept. Momentum principle. Uniform flow. Rapidly varied flow gradually-varied flow. Design of nonerodible and erodible channels.
