Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Understand the distribution of stresses within a soil mass,
  2. Explain and calculate immediate (elastic) settlement, consolidation settlement, and allowable settlement, as well as the foundation settlements of granular and cohesive soils,
  3. Compute the bearing capacity of cohesive and cohesionless soils and determine the allowable bearing capacity of foundations,
  4. Review and apply earth pressure theories, understand retaining systems such as cantilever and gravity retaining walls, anchored walls, and mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls, and comprehend the principles of retaining structure design,
  5. Classify different types of piles, explain the load-bearing capacity of a single pile in cohesive and cohesionless soils, and understand the design and settlement behavior of pile groups.
Mode of DeliveryFace to face
