Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Understand the importance and fundamental characteristics of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering,
  2. Calculate the weights and volumes of different material phases (minerals, air, and water) in soils, and comprehend soil plasticity and engineering soil definitions,
  3. Recognize and perform laboratory tests related to soil classification, compaction, and shear strength in accordance with engineering standards,
  4. Understand and compute stresses within a soil mass and the concept of soil shear strength,
  5. Estimate settlement magnitude and time relationship under various loading mechanisms, and explain the concept of lateral earth pressure.
