Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Learn the fundamental definitions of transportation and traffic engineering, and classify transportation systems along with their functions and characteristics,
  2. Understand the effects of vehicle characteristics on highway design from both theoretical and practical perspectives, and calculate stopping sight distance and passing sight distance in terms of traffic safety,
  3. Learn the fundamentals of transportation facility design, and perform route selection, design of highway elements, earthworks, and pavement type selection in highway design,
  4. Discuss the fundamentals of traffic flow and investigate the relationships among various traffic flow parameters that describe the operational performance of traffic flow.
