At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Can explain the fundamentals of microprocessors, microprocessor based system and microcontroller.
  2. Can explain the fundamentals of design using a microcontroller.
  3. Can explain the fundamentals a common and up-to-date microcontroller programming language.
  4. Can use an up-to-date compiler, programmer and simulation software used for embedded design.
  5. Can apply at least three peripheral unit to a microcontroller design.
  6. Can design a microcontroller application solely and in a team.

Course DescriptionThe fundamentals of microprocessors, microprocessor based system and microcontroller are the main subject of the course. A common microcontroller and programming language are used in the course. The main and peripheral components of a microcontroller is described by applications. Design, compile and programing using a microcontroller have been described. Real design examples have been performed using computer simulations.

WEEK TOPICS
1st Week Microprocessors, Microprocessors based system.
2nd Week Main units of microcontroller.
3rd Week Ports, usage of ports and usage of memory of a microcontroller.
4th Week Programming a microcontroller and simple ampplications.
5th Week The interface between microcontroller and other circuits.
6th Week A high level programming language in its applications.
7th Week LCD (liquid crystal display) and microcontroller application.
8th Week MIDTERM
9th Week Peripheral units of a microcontroller.
10th Week The design details of circuits design with a microcontroller.
11th Week Analog to digital conversion and its microcontroller application.
12th Week Interrupts and its microcontroller application.
13th Week Serial communication protocols and its microcontroller application.
14th Week Pulse width modulation and its microcontroller application.
