Course Description

Analysing texts which are basic materials for language teaching according to current theory and approaches (semiology, structuralism, critical discourse analysis, archetypal critcism, intertextuality/transtextuality etc.). Evaluating how to benefit from these texts for developing reading and listening comprehension and in text books.

Course Contents

2^nd Week	Text structure, text language, elements that constitute the text; formalism, semiotics, text analysis.
3^rd Week	Text language, formalism, semiotics, text analysis.
4^th Week	Semiological analysis and sample applications.
5^th Week	Structuralist approaches and sample applications.
6^th Week	Discourse and analysis.
7^th Week	Discourse and analysis.
8^th Week	Critical discourse analysis.
9^th Week	Intertextuality, Gerard Genette and transtextuality.
10^th Week	Intertextuality, Gerard Genette and transtextuality.
11^th Week	Reader-centered approaches, reception theory.
12^th Week	Text analysis and language education, sample applications.
13^th Week	Text analysis and language education, sample applications.
