Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Learn the relationship between urban morphology, history of architecture and other urban systems.
  2. Learn how the urban space and its elements evolve and transform through time, and practice the use of this information during design process.
  3. Develop an ability to interpret the effect of socio-economic and political factors on city form and urban space.
  4. Have basic information on the theories and contemporary methods of urban history and morphology.
  5. Experience urban morphology as a research method and gain the ability to predict the development of urban space.
  6. Gain the ability to interpret a specific topic and write critical essays, through the academic publications and discussions in the course regarding the city and urban space.
Mode of DeliveryFace to face

Course DescriptionThis course focuses on analysing the formation and development process of cities in different contexts and developing of methods to identify the structure and character of urban texture. With the help of the readings distributed throughout the course and the field studies to be carried out at different scales, students are expected to develop skills and knowledge on defining patterns, elements and typologies of an urban space and propose alternative solutions for current urban issues.
