Course Description
The aim of this course is to make students to learn and discuss the bonding structures of organic molecules, the structure of nucleic acids and protein molecules, Watson-Crick model of DNA, structure and types of RNA, transcription, translation, 3-D structure of proteins; to understand and discuss the methods for investigating nucleic acids and proteins such as Scanning Force Microscopy (SFM), High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Isoelectric Focusing (IeF), 3D Gel Electrophoresis, SDS Denaturation, Bradford Test. This course aims to provide students with a biological perspective. At the end of the course the students are also expected to understand physiology of different cell types while evaluating structural information in terms of molecular evolution and to use structural knowledge for cellular modifications.
