Course DescriptionThe aim of this course is to examine the emergence of modern consumption and to analyze the historical and social processes through which the human desire to possess has been transformed into dependence on commodities. The course further explores whether consumption can be reconceptualized not as a mechanism of social differentiation but as a means of sharing commons and fostering collective forms of social life. Within this framework, the course critically examines the concept of consumption, the relationship between production and consumption, the transformation of this relationship in the (post-)modern era, and its broader political, social, and cultural implications.
