Course DescriptionBasic information about reading education (basic concepts, historical process, etc.); the physical and mental elements of reading; memory and its features (short term memory, long term memory, memory, semantic and operational memory); reading vocabulary and vocabulary relationship; attention; reading defects; reading processes; developing reading skills; reading fluency (sound and silent fluent reading techniques); reading environments relating in the types of texts; reading methods and techniques; measuring and evaluating reading skills; designing reading activities.

1st Week What is reading culture? What are the issues? Fundamental concepts of the reading process: reading, author, reader, text, reading habit; the relationship between reading and other skill areas
2nd Week Physical, mental, and psychological dimensions of reading; memory
3rd Week Text structure, criteria of textuality, stages of text production
4th Week Reading models
5th Week Reading strategies (cognitive and metacognitive strategies)
6th Week Reading methods and techniques
7th Week Reading methods and techniques
8th Week Midterm exam
9th Week Reading literary texts; the relationship between vocabulary knowledge and reading
10th Week Text analysis and summarization; analysis exercises; semiotic analysis
11th Week Assessment and evaluation of reading activities; observation forms; reading skill scales; presentation of reading instruction course content
12th Week Examination of the Turkish language teaching curriculum regarding reading instruction
13th Week Analysis of textbook reading activities; presentation of reading instruction course content
14th Week Reading approaches based on text type; reading models; reading expository texts
