Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. It evaluates the structure of the current Turkish language teaching curriculum within the framework of curriculum design principles and contemporary language education approaches.
  2. It develops instructional activities aimed at improving reading, writing, listening, speaking, and comprehension skills.
  3. It explains the importance of reading comprehension strategies in the context of Turkish language teaching.
  4. It implements strategies that support the development of literacy skills.
  5. It evaluates the significance of children's literature in the context of Turkish language teaching.
  6. It develops activity/activities focusing on the interdisciplinary connections of the Turkish language course with other subject areas.
  7. It develops a lesson plan for Turkish language instruction that encompasses all learning domains.
  8. It explains the relationship between the activities included in the lesson plan and higher-order thinking skills.
  9. It develops reading comprehension questions based on Barrett?s taxonomy.
  10. It designs activities that enhance critical thinking skills through intertextual meaning construction.

Course DescriptionThis course aims to explore contemporary methods and techniques applicable to Turkish language instruction; the development of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and comprehension skills; the identification and remediation of reading difficulties; the structural analysis of reading texts; the teaching of poems, informative and narrative texts; intertextual reading and writing; constructing meaning from texts; vocabulary enrichment; media literacy (visual reading and presentation); the integration of reading and technology; question types related to meaning construction from texts; fostering critical thinking through reading and writing; methods for teaching main ideas; purposes, types, and conventions of reading; the assessment of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and comprehension skills. Additionally, the course includes an analysis of the Turkish language curriculum at the primary school level, its interdisciplinary connections, and the preparation and presentation of Turkish lesson plans.

1st Week Introduction: Aims and Content of the Course
2nd Week Examination of the Primary School Turkish Language Curriculum, Core Approach and Specific Objectives of the Primary School Turkish Language Course, Principles for the Implementation of the Curriculum, Themes and Content Areas.
3rd Week The Structure of the Turkish Language Curriculum (Examination of Skills: Domain-Specific Skills, Conceptual Skills, Dispositions, Cross-Curricular Components, Social-Emotional Learning Skills, Values, Literacy Skills, Interdisciplinary Connections, Intra-Skill Relationships).
4th Week Text Processing Procedures, Text Selection in Turkish Language Teaching, Criteria of Textuality, Evaluation of Comprehension of Read/Heard Texts (Development of Reading Comprehension Skills), Vocabulary Development, Types of Reading, Reading Comprehension Strategies.
5th Week Examination of the Lesson Plan Format, Implementation of Interactive Reading Practices with a Children?s Literature Text, Meaning Construction from Texts, Barrett?s Taxonomy.
