Course DescriptionThis course inquires into the phenomenon of the city mainly in contemporary discourse, utilizing a variety of methods, concepts, theoretical frameworks, and standpoints. Pioneering debates and critical perspectives in urban theory from the early 1960s to the present provide the background for the content of the course. The course is structured around weekly seminars on relevant urban research topics, along with parallel discussion sessions, studio exercises, and pin-up sessions to practice diverse frameworks of urban spatial analysis methods. The main objective of this course is to equip students with critical urban knowledge so they can reveal, analyze, understand, and interpret urban environments through a comprehensive approach. Given the complexity of spatial perception in urban phenomenon, the course teaches multimodal methods and approaches to urban analysis.
