At the end of this course, the students;
- Understand the mechanisms of DNA methylation,histone modifications, and the histone code hypothesis.
- Explain the roles of non-coding RNAs (miRNA, siRNA, lncRNA)in epigenetic regulation.
- Evaluate X-chromosome inactivation (XCI), including Xist and other epigenetic mechanisms, and explain the concept of genomic imprinting, imprinting control regions, and related diseases (e.g., Prader-Willi and Angelman syndromes)
- Discuss the role of epigenetic regulation in embryonic development and stem cells, and the importance of epigenetic memory.
- Analyze tumor suppressor gene silencing and oncogene activation processes within the scope of cancer epigenetics.
