Course DescriptionThis course begins with the intellectual movements of the Second Constitutional Period, which formed the foundation of sociology in Turkey. Following the dissolution of Ottoman society, a general framework regarding this period will be presented; the reflections of this process on Turkish society and politics will be discussed. The course will also examine the establishment of the nation-state in Turkey, the reforms of the Republic, and the effects of these processes on the shaping of Turkish social structure. Throughout the semester, students are expected to develop a deeper understanding of these historical and social processes through the intellectual currents, theories, and ideas of pioneering figures in the history of Turkish sociology.
