| Course Description | This graduate course develops your research competence as a critical consumer and producer of knowledge in TESOL and applied linguistics. It equips you to evaluate diverse research designs and scholarly work and to design and conduct small-scale classroom-based research projects. The course introduces key stages of the research process, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches, with attention to data collection (e.g., interviews, questionnaires, classroom observation, experimental design), data analysis, and ethical considerations. Students will formulate research problems, conduct critical literature reviews, select appropriate designs, analyze and interpret findings, and report results through structured abstracts. In addition, the course addresses contemporary developments such as the critical evaluation of AI use in research, interpretation of effect sizes and transparency statements, researcher positionality, and ethical complexities in digital research environments. Students will also strengthen their ability to locate, evaluate, and synthesize reliable academic sources. |
