Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. This course provides an introductory over view on risk factors, determinant / background characteristic, risk indicators, risk predictors/markers.
  2. This course covers risk factors for periodontal disease such as tobacco smoking, diabetes, pathogenic bacteria and dental plaque biofilm.
  3. This course explains risk determinants/background characteristics for periodontal disease such as genetic factors, age, gender, socioeconomic status, stress.
  4. This course covers risk indicators for periodontal disease such as human ımmunodeficiency virus/acquired ımmunodeficiency syndrome, osteoporosis, ınfrequent dental visits.
  5. This course explain risk markers/predictors for periodontal disease such as previous history of periodontal disease, bleeding on probing.
  6. At the end of this course; the students learn categories of risk elements for periodontal disease.
  7. At the end of this course; the students understand the information concerning individual risk for developing periodontal disease and learn how to obtaine through careful evaluation of the patient's demographic data, medical history, dental history, and clinical examination.

Course DescriptionRisk assessment is defined by numerous components. Risk is the probability that an individual will develop a specific disease in a given period. The risk of developing the disease will vary from individual to individual. Risk assessment involves identifying elements that either may predispose a patient to developing periodontal disease or may influence the progression of disease that already exists. In either case, these patients may require modification of their prognosis and treatment plan. In addition to an evaluation of the factors contributing to their risk, these patients should be educated concerning their risk, and when appropriate, suitable intervention strategies should be implemented.

Assessment Methods and Criteria Grading of the courses is determined by evaluating the midterm grades and the final exam grade together. The semester grades consist of the midterm exam grade and the grades given to the assignments, applications and practical studies depending on the course. The final evaluation is determined by one of the following letter grades by the instructor giving the course, taking into account the general success level of all students taking that course.
