Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Analyze the elastic and inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete members using numerical methods, considering the material properties of concrete and reinforcing steel,
  2. Design for shear and flexure in complex reinforced concrete members and slabs using advanced methods such as strut-and-tie models and yield line theory,
  3. Apply performance-based design principles to evaluate the seismic performance of reinforced concrete structures and prepare earthquake-resistant structural detailing,
  4. Identify structural deficiencies in existing reinforced concrete structures and design appropriate repair and strengthening techniques.
Mode of DeliveryFace to face
PrerequisitesNo
Recommended Optional Programme ComponentsNone
Course DescriptionStructural design and analysis concepts, accepted behavior models for confined concrete and stiffening steel, determination of final limit moment and curvature of confined reinforced concrete beams and columns by considering reinforcement hardening, analysis of beam and column sections according to yield limit state, curvature-ductility and moment-curvature relations, redistribution of moments, determination of plastic hinge rotational capacities, algorithms for limit design of reinforced concrete beams.
