Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Analyze and compare the natural periods and mode shapes of unisolated and seismically isolated structures to determine their dynamic characteristics,
  2. Design seismic isolation devices, including elastomeric bearings and friction pendulum systems, in accordance with current code provisions and design standards,
  3. Model the seismic response of linear and bilinear isolation systems to calculate modal and total structural demands,
  4. Evaluate the stability of elastomeric isolators and assess the design and testing requirements for seismic isolation units.
