At the end of this course, the students;
- Explain earthquake source mechanisms and their impact on engineering demand parameters,
- Process and filter raw seismic data for engineering purposes using software tools,
- Execute seismic hazard assessments for specific project sites,
- Interpret seismic design parameters in modern building codes based on seismological principles.

| Course Description | Basics of hazard vs. risk. Fundamentals of global plate tectonics and earthquake source parameters. Frequency domain behavior of strong ground motions, Fourier transformation. Fundamentals of seismometers. Strong-ground motion parameters, intensity measures, vs. engineering demand parameters. Ground-motion prediction equations, their derivation, their differences between different seismotectonic environments. Point-source synthetics. |
