Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Analyze the effects of urbanization on the hydrological cycle, infiltration capacity, and surface runoff regime; construct Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) curves using meteorological data and determine design rainfall hyetographs,
  2. Calculate the time of concentration and runoff coefficients based on the characteristics of urban catchments; analyze the rainfall-runoff transformation using empirical and deterministic methods,
  3. Classify urban drainage systems; dimension grated inlet structures, culverts, side weirs, and conveyance channels according to hydraulic capacity and safety criteria,
  4. Perform flood routing calculations; conduct volumetric and hydraulic calculations for detention basins to reduce flood risk in urban areas.
