Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Understand the main constituents of cement and concrete and describe how the properties of raw materials/admixtures affect cement and concrete quality,
  2. Explain Portland cement manufacture (raw mix - clinker phases - grinding) and relate clinker phase composition and hydration to strength development and performance,
  3. Identify the main cement and concrete types and interpret relevant standards/specifications used for quality assessment and acceptance,
  4. Apply quality control procedures to evaluate cement and concrete using chemical/physical.
Mode of DeliveryFace to face
PrerequisitesNo
Recommended Optional Programme ComponentsNone
Course DescriptionThis course aims to enable the student to acquire necessary knowledge about cement, aggregate, additives and water and use these materials efficiently and accurately in the design of concrete mixtures.
