At the end of this course, the students;
- Explain the fundamental principles of continuum mechanics and constitutive theory used in computational mechanics of materials,
- Formulate and implement one-dimensional constitutive material models within an implicit nonlinear finite element framework,
- Analyze and evaluate the numerical response of materials by using return mapping algorithms and consistent tangent operators.

| Mode of Delivery | Face to face |
| Prerequisites | No |
| Recommended Optional Programme Components | None |
| Course Description | The aim of this course is to equip students with fundamental knowledge of the theoretical and computational mechanics of materials and constitutive theory, and to enable students to assimilate the role of a materials routine within the canonical structure of an implicit nonlinear finite element code in a one-dimensional setting. |
