Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

Deal with visual culture and communication aspects of structural anthropology and cultural anthropology,
Examine related theories of anthropology and visual culture,
Understand cultural indicators, symbols and logos theoretically better in an anthropological context,
The work of the field of visual communication, which exists today in a wide range from commercial products to political campaigns, understand in an anthropological context.

Course Description

Cultural anthropology, which is an important specialization of anthropology that deals with human in its broadest aspects, develops various theories and practices in the context of structural linguistics and cultural semiology. In this context, the universal background codes of the productions in the field of visual communication in the context of cultural anthropology and semiology, the principles of the universal functioning of the human mind, the idea of universal binary opposites in the field of design and visual communication; From totemism to "1-0" logic and cybernetic applications, its analysis, development and effects on a wide scale are discussed. In addition, the effect of cultural and anthropological codes on design and its visual communication dimension are also discussed.

6^th Week	Race - History - Culture, Structural Anthropology, Anthropology Against the Problems of the Modern World. Chapter 1: Language and Kinship relations 2. Social organization
7^th Week	Cultural indicators, semiology and visual arts influence

9^th Week	Semiology-Barthes: Empire of Signs, mythology
10^th Week	Anthropology and semiological analysis in cinema, propaganda and mass media
11^th Week	Form structure of fairy tales, hero myth and modern cinema editing
12^th Week	Trademarks, advertising, banners, logos and design in the context of cultural indicators
13^th Week	Examples and applications of anthropological codes of visual communication in the field of commercial, industrial and design in Turkey
