Course Description

In the history of art, it is not possible to find a second phenomenon that has been discussed as much as modernity about the meaning, value, purpose and conditions of existence of art. The aim of the course is to examine these discussions, the relations between them and their results, and to question how they are grounded on slippery and volatile art stages. Different definitions, preferences and propositions of modernity brought to the agenda by these discussions will be discussed separately.

5^th Week	Examination and discussion of examples of experimentation in contemporary art
6^th Week	Effects of romanticism on contemporary art
7^th Week	Reflections of technological progress on contemporary art
8^th Week	Midterm
9^th Week	Fauvism, impressionism, postimpressionism
10^th Week	Futurism and vorticism
11^th Week	Discussion of avant-garde art movements
12^th Week	Modernist art and politics. Contemporary art manifestos
13^th Week	Modernist art canonization. Successors of contemporary art
