Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Will be able to explaine the physiological properties of cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, urogenital, endocrine and reproductive systems
  2. Will be able to discuss the basic principles and physiological regulation mechanisms of these systems.
Mode of DeliveryFace to face
PrerequisitesNo
Recommended Optional Programme ComponentsNone
Course DescriptionBasic themes and major issues in circulatory and respiratory physiology. After a brief overview, we will examine a number of theoretical and substantive issues in the area of cardiovascular dynamics, regulation of heart rate and blood pressure, respiratory tract, mechanics of breathing, factors affecting gas exchange and gas solubility, gas transport, neurochemical control of breathing. Digestive physiology and metabolism. After a brief overview, we will examine a number of theoretical and substantive issues in the area of functional anatomy of the gastrointestinal system, general principles of gastrointestinal function (motility, nervous control, and blood circulation) functions of gastrointestinal tract, physiology of digestive processes, transport and mixing of food in the alimentary tract, digestion and absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. Basic themes and major issues in urogenital system physiology. After a brief overview of the course, we will examine a number of theoretical and substantive issues in the area of kidney functions, urine formation and excretion. Basic themes and major issues in neuroendocrine system physiology. After a brief overview of the course, we will examine a number of theoretical and substantive issues in the area of hormone synthesis, regulation of hormone secretion, regulation of hormone receptors, effects and control of hormones in the endocrine physiology.
