Course DescriptionThis course explores the historical transformation of aesthetic thought from antiquity to the present and its relationship with social structures. It examines art interpretations starting from Plato and Aristotle to philosophers such as Kant, Hegel, and Nietzsche, alongside the Frankfurt School?s critiques of the culture industry and Benjamin?s technology-oriented approaches. Students will gain the ability to analyze visual culture through modern mediums like photography, cinema, and video; explore taste judgments via Bourdieu?s concept of "habitus"; and decipher the dynamics between aesthetics and power within a Foucaultian framework.
