Course DescriptionThis course is a critical examination focused on understanding the historical development, major movements, and core concepts of Contemporary Dance art, spanning from the early 20th century to the present day. Students will deeply study the foundational figures of modern and postmodern dance (Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Pina Bausch, etc.) and their respective movement philosophies, simultaneously acquiring the ability to analyze the cultural, social, and political contexts of these works. The course provides critical analysis tools such as choreographic structure, use of space, relationship with music, and audience interpretation. The primary goal is to enable students to progress from mere viewers to conscious and critical interpreters who can deeply understand Contemporary Dance works on both technical and conceptual levels.
