Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. To define the fundamental concepts of mechanical metallurgy, such as stress, strain, and material deformation behavior.
  2. To analyze elastic and plastic deformation in both idealized (single crystal) and real crystalline materials.
  3. To understand dislocation theory and its critical role in plastic deformation and work hardening mechanisms.
  4. To define and explain various work hardening methods such as grain size control, solid solution work hardening, and cold forming.
  5. To apply standard mechanical tests such as tensile, hardness, impact, fatigue, and creep tests and interpret their results.
  6. To evaluate failure mechanisms such as fatigue, creep, and fracture and relate them to service conditions and material structure.
  7. To solve engineering problems related to material selection and performance under mechanical loads.
