Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Carry out vector operations and define force and moment concepts.
  2. Draw Free Body Diagrams and solve equilibrium problems of Particles and rigid bodies in equilibrium.
  3. Carry out force analysis of trusses, frames and machines under static equilibrium.
  4. Determine the locations of center of gravity, center of mass and the centroid of a body.
  5. Carry out equilibrium analysis of rigid bodies subjected to frictional forces.
  6. Determine the moment of inertia for an area and the mass moment of inertia.
  7. Apply virtual work and potential energy principles to investigate the type of equilibrium or stability of a rigid body or systems of pin connected members.
