Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the students;

  1. Describe the basic concepts of mechanical metallurgy, including stress, strain, and material deformation behavior.
  2. Analyze elastic and plastic deformation in both idealized (single crystal) and real crystalline materials.
  3. Understand dislocation theory and its critical role in plastic deformation and strengthening mechanisms.
  4. Identify and explain various strengthening methods, including grain size control, solid solution strengthening, and work hardening.
  5. Conduct and interpret standard mechanical tests, such as tensile, hardness, impact, fatigue, and creep testing.
  6. Evaluate failure mechanisms including fatigue, creep, and fracture, and relate them to service conditions and material structure.
  7. Apply mechanical metallurgy principles to solve practical engineering problems involving material selection and performance under mechanical loads.
